There are many myths about pest control. Many myths lead homeowners to believe that they can do really simple things to their home and will never have issues with pests. Understanding some of these myths and knowing the truth about them will prevent pest infestation in the long run.
3 Common Pest Myths:
- The presence of cockroaches means a dirty home: If you see a cockroach in your home, that doesn’t necessarily mean your home is dirty. Cockroaches often enter the home looking for food and shelter. Cockroaches are drawn to the home especially when food is left open or exposed in cabinets or on counter tops. Once a cockroach infestation has been established, it can be hard to get rid of it on your own. If you have roaches, contacting a pest company to rid your home of them is the best solution.
- If you don’t see bugs, you don’t have a pest problem: Many people assume that they must see bugs in order for them to be present in the home. This is absolutely not the truth. Termites could be silently feasting on your biggest investment, and you might not even know it. Termites and carpenter ants are silent pests. They can destroy parts of your home long before you know they are present.
- Clean homes will never have bed bugs: This isn’t necessarily true. Bed bugs are attracted to the warmth of a home especially bed linens. Their diet consists primarily of blood and they are happy to nibble on you in spite of the cleanliness of your home. Bedbugs can also be brought into your home after visits to a hotel. You can bring them back to your home in your luggage. Again, cleanliness or lack thereof doesn’t dictate if you will have a bed bug infestation or not.
