Cockroaches

Did you know that cockroaches are the most successful species in the world? Their ability to adapt has made them the oldest and most common species on the planet Earth. While this may be good news for the Blattodae (Cockroach) family, it is not good for your home! Innovative Pest Solutions can provide control of the pesky pests with a one-time or quarterly service to your home.  In  the Raleigh/Durham area we deal with several species of this pest.

Smoky Brown Cockroach

The Smoky Brown Cockroach or as some call it “Palmetto Bug” is a large cockroach whose natural habitat includes the outdoors, leaf debris, wood piles, organic matter. These roaches can grow to 1 ½ to 2” in length.  They are typically dark brown as an adult but can be black as a nymph (early development stages)  Their huge size can often intimidate homeowners when they find their way indoors.

During weather changes these roaches can be driven into homes looking for food, water, and warmth.  Your attic and crawlspace are the perfect places for them to make a new residence.  Although these roaches do not multiply as quickly as their cousins (German Cockroach), once established can begin to invade and infest the home in large numbers.

At Innovative Pest Solutions we can assess your situation and treat your properly according to control this nuisance pest.  By strategically placing baits and dust, along with a crack and crevice treatment we can rid you home of these pests.  A one-time treatment will control these pests for a 90-day period of time.  Our quarterly pest control program can be used to keep these and all other household pest away from your home throughout the year.

German Cockroach

The German cockroach, like many insects, develops in the following stages: egg, nymph (early development), and adult. Females will produce an egg capsule (ootheca) that contains up to 50 eggs, and hatches within six weeks. As you can do the math, it does not take long for these roaches to multiply very quickly when the conditions are right.

The young roaches, or nymphs, are smaller, darker brown, with two dark lines from the back of the head to the wings.  The adults are 1/2 to 5/8 inches long, are tan to light brown in color, and have fully developed wings. Two dark parallel lines run from the back of the head to the wings.

Typically these roaches are found in commercial kitchens, grocery stores, etc.  They are not normally found outside a structure.  They multiply very quickly and can become a problem in no time.  Sanitation is key to controlling the German Roach.  By treating the area with baits, dusts, traps, and crack and crevice treatment Innovative Pest Solutions can solve this issue, along with your help to keep the areas clean, with a one-trim treatment.  A monthly or quarterly pest control program may be needed depending on the severity of the infestation.  Please call us today for more information on our programs or to schedule a visit.
